Can you tell me about the creative portfolio experience that is available to certified stylists?
To celebrate becoming certified, The Mona Cut Academy graduation ceremony is the development of a creative portfolio. Certified stylists will have artistic direction support, the ability to shoot in The Mona Cut Studio in New York City, and access to a photographer. Stylists will be able to shoot two iconic cuts and receive two high-resolution digital images. Stylists are responsible for securing models, wardrobe and props required to achieve the desired vision. An on-site space will be available for stylists to cut and style models’ hair.
Who will teach the courses?
At this time, all courses are led and taught by Mona Baltazar.
Where are courses hosted?
Courses are hosted at The Mona Cut Studio located at 526 7th Ave, 5th Fl, New York, NY 10018.
What is an Open Forum?
An Open Forum is a virtual live Q&A group session hosted by Mona after an icon course is finished; attendance is optional. It is an opportunity for stylists to apply the techniques learned in an icon course at their home salons and then access a dedicated space to ask Mona and fellow students follow-up questions. At this time, three Open Forums will be hosted throughout the year. Recordings will be accessible online until the next OpenForum is hosted.
How do I access an Open Forum?
Stylists who have attended an icon course will be notified via email to register for an OpenForum, if they desire. Registration is required to attend. Dates will be send out via email.
Is attendance at the Open Forum required?
No, it is not required. This is an optional learning opportunity to help stylists master the concepts taught in an icon course after applying the techniques at their home salons.
I took Da Foundation, can I access an Open Forum?
No, access to an OpenForum is for stylists who have taken an icon course.
What does it mean to “successfully complete” a course?
After completing an icon course, students must submit a portfolio of two examples of the style or cut for review by The Mona Cut Academy. Photos should be well-lit, clear and include front, left- and right- side profiles and back (a total of 8 photos, four photos per client). You may also send a video or your before and after. Submit to academy@themonacut.com.
Do I have to submit a portfolio for review after taking Da Foundation?
No, a portfolio review is not required after taking Da Foundation.
Does Da Foundation have an icon badge?
No, Da Foundation does not have an icon badge, but stylists must take this class before they can attend an icon course.

May I choose to take only one icon course?
Yes, you may take any icon course, and you will still receive your corresponding icon once you successfully complete the course. We encourage you to get the full certification in order to be on our stylist database. Please note that Da Foundation must be taken before registering for an icon course.
How do I get added to The Mona Cut Academy Directory?
Those who have successfully completed one or more icon courses will be added to The Mona Cut Academy Directory. Complete all five courses, and your profile is marked as “certified.”
Do I have to take Da Foundation each time I register for an icon course?
No, you are only required to take Da Foundation once to be eligible to register for one or more icon courses.
May I reschedule my course date, and if so, how?

Is there an icon course that I should take first?
You may choose to select any icon course available on the calendar, but it is recommended that you consider Da Logo or Da Chrys. These shapes are versatile and popular among clients.

Does The Mona Cut Academy offer certificates of completion?
Instead of certificates of completion – The Mona Cut Academy provides pins that can be displayed at workstations or worn as charms to show mastery.

Is there a payment plan available for The Mona Cut Academy?
Yes, The Mona Cut Academy offers a payment plan. Note coupons or discounts are not valid with payment plan.
Are there any scholarships or discounts available for The Mona Cut Academy?
Becoming certified requires students to apply and build upon skills learned throughout the coursework. A 10% price reduction is provided at checkout to stylists who take an icon course within four months of their last The Mona Cut Academy course.
